Antony Price, Famed for Styling Bowie and Duran Duran, Has Died Aged 80.
Fashion legend Antony Price, the visionary style architect responsible for many legendary styles favored by musical icons like Bowie and members of Roxy Music, as well as Queen Camilla, has passed away at the age of 80.
He was celebrated for his defined forms and theatrical styles, including the pastel suits that appeared in rock band Duran Duran's landmark music video for "the song Rio".
"They honored him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the band released a statement online."
His passing follows less than a month after he presented his newest line in London, his first in more than 30 years. Artist Lily Allen modelled a dress evoking the iconic black velvet "revenge dress" once worn by Princess Diana.
A Pioneering Career
A native of Yorkshire, born in 1945, Price relocated to London during the sixties to study at the renowned Royal College of Art.
A year after graduating, he commenced his career designing menswear at Stirling Copper and was the creator of the body-hugging, buttoned trousers that The Rolling Stones' frontman Mick Jagger famously wore during the iconic group's Gimme Shelter tour in 1969.
He established his eponymous line in 1979 and staged his first fashion show a year later. The show was launched by outfits on the famed model Jerry Hall, who also wore the marriage dress Price created for her for her marriage to Sir Mick Jagger.
Working with Legends
A long-time collaborator of David Bowie, Price designed the memorable jacket the singer wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.
His trademark skill to fuse menswear and womenswear along with his technical proficiency in designing form-fitting garments made him a "one-of-a-kind talent," in the words of the UK's fashion authority.
In the 1990s, he started creating ensembles for Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, such as a number of outfits for her US tour after becoming Duchess.
Following a profession lasting over fifty years, Price staged what would be his last show in London just last month in collaboration with the label 16Arlington.

The fashion world laments the passing to a true visionary whose influence on style and culture remains profoundly felt.
