Battlefield 6's Casual Playlist Ignites Intense Discussions Regarding Bots, Experience Points, and Queue Times

Over the weekend, Battlefield Studios introduced a fresh playlist called Relaxed Breakthrough. To put it simply, this mode mirrors the standard Breakthrough setup but features a few notable changes:

  • Every squad has just 8 human participants, with the rest made up of AI-controlled opponents.
  • Activities done by real players grant full XP, while AI activities provide reduced XP.
  • Just a pair of locations are available: Cairo Siege and Empire State map.
  • Features like Player tags, accolades, and career stat updates are disabled.

In short, the playlist lives up to its name: it's a laid-back version of Breakthrough. At face value, you might think it's a good idea, as it provides additional choices for players seeking alternative ways to have fun with the game. However, gaming history has shown one thing, it's that not everyone will be happy. In other words, many BF6 fans are upset.

Player Responses: Anger to Praise

"People want real players. Don't repeat the errors of your rivals," states a response to the mode reveal. "Truly disappointing idea," comments a different user. At the same time, in community forums, one user remarks, "I have no idea where we are headed with this game," while someone else lists all the issues they consider to be problematic in Battlefield 6: "Resolve glitches, address drone issues, fix IVF rockets, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, improve hit detection. We do not require this bot mode."

On the other hand, for every complaint, some gamers sharing how much they're enjoying the new mode. "It's enjoyable to practice, human participants prevent it from being a total farmfest but it's very relaxed," says a forum post. "This subreddit doesn't understand that there are gamers who actually go outside and don't play this game 24/7. Let them find a middle ground," states another. One reply on Twitter explains that as they're "a parent gamer with busy schedules, this is perfect for me," and another praises the mode for "not being overcompetitive."

Valid Concerns and Player Input

All that said, players have constructive reasons to complain about Casual Breakthrough. Some users have pointed out that it will make wait times more extended for different playlists due to the sheer number of playlists currently available. Similarly, certain regions often face AI-filled matches in the current modes. Additionally, it appears a little backwards that the mode won't start without a minimum number of real players, despite it focuses mostly on combat against bots.

Lastly, one of the biggest grievances is that a previous feature was promised to offer full XP, including AI matches, but that got canned when they attempted to remove XP farming from the system. So this new playlist feels like the community meeting them in the middle, as per a Reddit comment. A different user labels this mode as the developers "making a mistake significantly, I had great enjoyment in the first couple of days, why did they feel the need to adjust it?"

Looking Ahead: Adjustments Be Made?

Should the development team has proven anything to date with the latest installment, it's that they're paying attention and responding to player input. Assignments that were overly hard were adjusted rapidly, just like the specific battle pass objectives. Chances are that, if their data indicates this recent mode is underperforming to their standards, they will not hesitate to make further modifications.
