Jurgen Klopp admits coming back to lead Liverpool is plausible in theory.
The German coach, who stepped down from Anfield in 2024, has suggested that returning someday remains something that could happen. Klopp, following a hugely successful near-decade reign that included Champions League success and the Premier League crown in 30 years, now holds positions in a global football capacity within the Red Bull organization and providing guidance for the DFL.
Supporters’ Hopes and His Frank Comments
They secured England's top flight under Arne Slot, but many fans holding him in high esteem would embrace the notion that he may eventually return. Speaking candidly, he told the podcast host: “I declared I will never coach a different club within the country. So that means if then it’s Liverpool...yeah. Theoretically it’s possible.”
“I’m 58, which suggests I could make the decision later on, who knows. Must I choose now? If so, I wouldn't return. Fortunately, no such pressure exists. I'll simply watch how things unfold.”
What Would Lure Him Back?
When asked about what circumstances would have to unfold to bring him back to management, he confessed he isn't eager toward coming back. “I don’t even know exactly, My present work fulfills me,” he commented. “I don't crave being a coach; I don’t miss standing in the rain for two-and-a-half or three hours; I don’t miss going to press conferences multiple times weekly or constant media duties a week.
“No nostalgia for the changing area in that context, but sitting in a restaurant alongside the squad having a nice chat, is pleasant. Success was frequent meaning regularly positive atmosphere in the building. I still have the captain's chuckle vividly recalled to illustrate.”
Commending Arne Slot
Klopp was full of praise regarding Arne Slot, praising him due to the changes that won the league last campaign. They've been defeated four consecutive matches in all competitions after a summer spending spree, yet he dismissed the notion of it representing a slump.
“[Liverpool have] a top-class attacker such as Wirtz, doubters will be silenced if you use the wrong words. A remarkable prospect. The French striker, incredible player. They have a strong well-judged squad. No need for concern about Liverpool, they will be fine.”
Emotional Tribute for Diogo Jota
Klopp also spoke emotionally regarding the passing of Diogo Jota, whom he brought in while in charge, along with the consequences at the club. The Portugal international died tragically in a road accident alongside his brother this past summer.
“Can you substitute such an individual? This isn't just regarding his footballing ability, it’s the guy he was. I struggle to conceive the squad without him in it. I still cannot speak properly on this topic. A profound tragedy for his teammates as well. Nobody at Liverpool would cite it to justify results yet it's the reality. You walk in a dressing room where he was omnipresent. Coping with it on a personal level is challenging. Overwhelming.”
