The Gunners' boss has expressed confidence that his squad can keep managing with player absences after confirming that star striker Kai Havertz will not return for several more weeks.

Extended Absence for German Star

The German forward has been absent since the summer following knee surgery. Originally slated to return sooner, the manager stated the player hit a snag when increasing his rehabilitation and failed to reach “to the next level.”

“We took lessons, and managed to assemble a team that is much more reliable and has more options,” commented Arteta.

Tactical Decisions for Midweek Fixture

This development leaves a dilemma for the midweek home game against Brentford. The manager needs to decide between persisting with Mikel Merino, who found the net in an unfamiliar forward role last weekend, or bringing back Viktor Gyökeres, who featured briefly off the bench in the latter stages. Veteran striker Gabriel Jesus is an option after 11 months out.

Fitness Doubts Persist

Additional concerns affect defender William Saliba and winger Leandro Trossard, who were absent for the Stamford Bridge game. Consequently, recent arrivals Cristhian Mosquera and Piero Hincapié are likely to start again in the heart of the defence for the Premier League front-runners.

The manager is convinced the £250m spend on reinforcements during the summer has resulted in a far better place to navigate such unavailability.

Squad Depth Vital for Title Challenge

Questioned if a larger pool of players was benefiting their championship push, his response was positive. “Indeed, as this campaign has been worse in some areas, and now what’s happening with the backline,” he continued.

“History has shown us that we have to use players in different positions, and they need to be prepared to fulfil different roles if we aim to challenge at the highest level. And the instance of Mikel Merino.”

Arteta's Support for Frustrated Havertz

Commenting on the setback highlighted by national team coach Julian Nagelsmann, Arteta offered further detail. “He was doing everything. He failed to advance to the next level and now it appears like we have unlocked that.”

Arteta expressed his keenness to see him return. “Everyone is eager to have him. I mean, he is a footballer who, in my view, I admire greatly for what he brings to the team, but his character, his nature. I see him suffer while sidelined.”
