Six Suspects Apprehended After €12 Million Robbery on Gold Processing Laboratory in France
Six armed perpetrators equipped with military-grade weapons detonated charges to break into a gold treatment facility located in the city of Lyon, slightly injuring five staff members during what is being called the newest significant daytime heist to hit the nation.
The daring raid occurred on Thursday late morning, with law enforcement authorities swiftly apprehending the alleged criminals and recovering the stolen goods assessed at around 12 million euros (£10.5 million), according to officials.
Five employees of Laboratoires Pourquery received light wounds due to the explosion, and three of them were taken to a medical facility for examination, the regional prefecture announced. A total of twenty-eight staff were inside the facility when the thieves struck.
The individuals, considered career criminals, were detained a brief time later in the neighboring community of the town of Vénissieux, a source close to the investigation stated.
A female accomplice who took part in the robbery was taken into custody as well, according to law enforcement.
“Six individuals who used detonations in a raid against a metals processing plant in Lyon were caught in the act,” France's security official declared on social media, praising officers for their “decisiveness, speed and control”.
Military-style weapons, pistols and explosive materials were recovered as well.
