Vince Gilligan Discloses He Has a Plan for How The Apple TV+ Show Will Conclude... At the Moment.

The creative mastermind could not have predicted that the Apple TV+ show would become a cultural phenomenon. “God bless the fans,” Gilligan says. “I did not foresee the show being as passionately debated as it is, and it makes me overjoyed.”

Now that Season 1 of the hit program reaching its finale—and a second season greenlit and underway—Gilligan and his team recently discussed the audience reaction and whether it will shape the future direction of Pluribus.

Regarding the Overwhelming Audience Reaction

Anyone might to get distracted by the constant speculation and fan theories surrounding Pluribus. Gilligan, however, is striving to ignore the noise.

“It feels like an endless supply of your favorite dessert and being tickled to death,” he explains. “It's the greatest thing, but I get wind of it anecdotally, and that's intentional. Not once have I Googled myself, nor do I ever intend to. It's not a lack of interest. It's a deep trap I know I would get lost in and then I'd be living in squalor from Home Depot and I'd never leave my living room.”

Regardless of Gilligan’s best intentions, there’s no way to avoid the overwhelmingly positive response to the series. The only approach for the writers is to take it in stride and try not to let it influence the direction of the show.

“We don't try to change the plot,” says writer and executive producer Alison Tatlock. “The narrative we craft is not influenced by audience chatter.”

“We prefer to keep our heads down and working,” he chimes in.

A Pressing Query: Has Vince Gilligan Have a Plan for the Ending of Pluribus?

Considering the writers aren’t being guided by public opinion, can we assume they have already decided how Pluribus will finally conclude? The answer is yes… with some caveats.

“We have some compelling concepts about the ultimate destination,” Gilligan says. “but we are always ready to throw out a good idea for a superior concept. That has held us in excellent shape on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We throw stuff out when we get a better idea and I imagine we will be doing that.”

On the other hand, if they hit a wall, director and writer Gordon Smith has a pretty funny idea to serve as a last resort.

“I constantly suggest that the entire story is inside a snow globe, and that we'll pull back at the end and we're in there,” Smith jokes, “but nobody's taking me up on that.”

Then again, why not reference the iconic TV endings?

“I want Carol to wake up in bed beside Bob Newhart,” Gilligan says with a smile.

Pluribus is currently available on Apple TV.
