McKenna's Stance on Celtic

McKenna described the Glasgow giants as "a really big soccer institution" but stressed he is "deeply involved" of a "extensive rebuilding" with Ipswich Town.

The mid-thirties took charge of Portman Road in 2021 and guided the team to the Premier League with consecutive elevations, but they won just four games last campaign as they were demoted back to the second division and they presently occupy twelfth place in England's second tier.

"I have not had any of those discussions," the English capital native ex- Northern Ireland young player said when questioned about being on Celtic's shortlist.

"This isn't a matter I have given any thought to, or where any part of my concentration is currently.

"I possess a special position here at a special team. And we're at a crucial stage of the season. Anything outside of that hasn't reached my awareness."

It has been suggested that the manager would be willing to talk to the Scottish side given his boyhood allegiances.

"During youth, we all have our affinities," he said when asked about these. "It's unlikely everyone has to go around and announce what they were, but naturally it's a massive football club."

McKenna agreed to a new four-year contract in 2024 and was questioned about his reported £5m release clause.

"In every manager's contract, there are things," he replied. "I don't know what my specific terms are and, if I did, I wouldn't disclose you regardless!

"I approach this job like I'll be Ipswich manager forever. I understand that's not always going to be the situation, but I'll always give maximum effort as while I am here."

Bellamy's Situation

The former striker represented Celtic on temporary transfer from Newcastle United in the mid-2000s, but the former Welsh forward is inclined to complete the current global tournament qualification, a position that would effectively rule out the 46-year-old from assuming the Celtic job.

The Welsh squad are presently third in their qualifying group behind group toppers Belgium and runners-up North Macedonia.

Wins over the minnows and North Macedonia in next month would secure their position in the final qualifying round, but they are virtually assured of making those, thanks to a productive European competition campaign, should they not end up Group J runners-up.

Given his present position, the Wales manager, whose agreement expires after the European Championship, would be unavailable until following the play-offs at the minimum.
